If I read this right, these are the key field marks:<br/><br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;1. White ring/edge around the scapulars, and tertials mark the bird as a juvenile<br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;2. Transition to breeding plumage - noted in patterns of scapulars and tertials, as well as rufous barring<br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;3. White belly (not visible in all views, but definitely there) - no white belly on long-billed dowitcher<br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;4. Spots on lower breast<br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;5. Bars on belly are confusing - and could be read as long-billed dowitcher as well<br/> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;6. Scapular/tertials have a particular black and orange pattern that is unique in Short-bills - Long-billed Dowitchers have more black.", location: "Palo Alto Baylands", date: new Date(2005,3,8) },
